3D Modeling vs. Tangiblee: Scalability and Time

E-commerce has changed dramatically since 2020 as consumers demand an immersive online experience. Online shopping has become the new norm forcing brands and retailers to pivot to meet this need.

Companies are investing in tech solutions in order to offer a realistic shopping experience online. Major players in the game include AR solutions, 3D experiences, artificial intelligence, and on-site personalization.

Many retailers have turned toward 3D solutions to try and provide a realistic online immersive shopping experience. Is this the best option? What is the 3D experience like and is the implementation process worth it?

Retailers such as Target are offering 3D visualization for some of their products. Within the 3D solution, consumers are able to move the product around to visualize it from any angle.

While 3D offers customers the ability to manipulate a product, what does it really provide in terms of realistic visualization? When using Target’s experience, the call to action “See this item in 3D” opens to a plain background with the product in the middle. The only level of interactivity is moving the furniture around; however, it offers no other visualization capabilities.

Target also enables customers to “see in your space”. However, because this solution is based on Android/Apple UX it isn’t branded or personalized to match the brand’s aesthetic. Additionally, the products aren’t scaled correctly and look unrealistic in a room alongside other furniture.

Additionally, only certain products throughout the Target website offer this capability. This creates an inconsistent shopping experience when browsing through various styles.

3D Model Creation Is Costly and Time-Intensive

There are tiers of 3D modeling in terms of the quality, cost, and time to implement. Generally, when creating 3D visualizations, retailers must generate 3D models for each SKU. This can be a tedious and expensive process. The higher the quality of the 3D model, the longer it takes and the greater the cost.

Creating high-quality 3D models for your e-commerce site can cost upwards of $650 per SKU. For many retailers, this is unrealistic, thus making 3D only feasible for top sellers.

Additionally, 3D takes time. It can take up to 3 months for standard delivery of 100 SKUs. This isn’t scalable with new product arrivals and provides an inconsistent shopping experience for consumers. Retailers have to send their products to 3D developers or take specific photos of products which adds to the cost and time commitment associated with 3D modeling.

The Scalable, Affordable Alternative: Tangiblee

Given the time and budget needed for 3D model creation, retail executives need to find solutions today that provide a compelling immersive shopping experience for less time and money.

What is a viable solution?

Tangiblee offers an immersive shopping experience including Virtual Try-On, Room View, and more. Within Tangiblee solutions, consumers can visualize products on lifestyle models, try the product on themselves, or visualize furniture in their space.

Making AR Commerce Experiences Accessible

Tangiblee takes existing 2D content and transforms it into interactive visuals. This requires no additional photography or shipping of products as it can all be sourced by crawling the retailer’s site. Removing these tedious steps shortens the delivery time substantially. Thousands of SKUs can be processed and live  within the Tangiblee solution within a week.

Using 2D imagery, Tangiblee is able to do some behind-the-scenes magic with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to prep products to be equipped with VTO. This allows Tangiblee to be implemented at scale on e-commerce sites of all sizes rather than the months of prep required for 3D models.

Once the product is processed, it is then equipped for VTO using AI and ML. This again cuts down on the processing time it takes to get VTO up and running. When a consumer goes to a PDP to view a product and engages with the VTO feature, the image is processed using AI within seconds in the Tangiblee solution. This provides a jitter-free experience compared to using live 3D allowing customers to visualize the jewelry on themselves more realistically.

Tangiblee is more attainable for businesses at all levels. Retailers can implement the solution across their entire website catalog quickly and at scale in comparison to 3D solutions. When new arrivals are added to an e-commerce site, they are automatically processed and available in Tangiblee’s solution quickly to create a consistent shopping experience for their customers.

Still Not Convinced?

Still not sure what solution is best for your e-commerce site?

Tangiblee offers a personalized experience for both consumers and retailers. For example, jewelry retailers are able to provide a Ring Stacking feature. This enables consumers to create a custom curated look with multiple products and add them to their cart with a few simple clicks. Handbag retailers can support size inclusivity by offering adjustable silhouettes that match their brand identity. Consumers can scale the model to match their body type and realistically visualize the product.

After Tangiblee is implemented, it doesn’t stop there. Unlike solutions requiring 3D, models aren’t just created and then left with clients to figure out what to do next. The Tangiblee implementation is continuous and supported by ongoing, rapid innovation. New features can consistently be rolled out across all SKUs quickly, while 3D models may need to be recreated in order to offer an additional feature.

This type of personalization is unique to Tangiblee solutions. Interested in learning more about what Tangiblee could mean for your e-commerce site? Schedule a 15-minute live demo here and tune into our upcoming webinar.
